I got logged out and lost everything I had written aaagh. Anyway, in short, how long do you plan on staying in Thailand and Laos? Read online travel guides and work out which places interest you. Also, travel within Thailand can be time consuming depending where you want to visit. We don't know what your interests are eg beaches, cultural, historical, nightlife etc. For accom. tripadvisor.com and travelfish.com are two sites with numerous choices with reviews.
I visited Vang Vieng in 2010 specifically to go tubing. I crossed the Thai/Laos border in the north and eventually made my way south all the way back to Bangkok.
