Florida bicycle touring January 2013

Hi

Well, probably the most important thing you need to know is that bicycles aren't allowed on the interstate highway system (quick way to get a ticket from the local police if you even try to take this for one mile). Since the major highways from Orlando to Tampa and from Tampa to Miami are interstates, and since the major road from Orlando to Miami (Florida Turnpike, which is state highway 91) is also closed to bicycles, you'll need to figure out other roads to take to get between places in Florida. Fortunately, US highways (for example, US 27) and most state highways (besides 91) are open to bikes, you should plan your trip by taking these as you travel across the state.

P.S. Enjoyed the quote on your profile page (which originally was from one of George Bernard Shaw's plays, Back to Methuselah, but which was made famous by John Kennedy's speech to the Irish Parliament in 1963).
