Study Abroad

Studying abroad is a great way to travel and expand horizons but the timing really depends on your (education) situation. I went to Japan as part of a gap year after school, mostly for the incredible language and cultural exchange as my university studies were in a completely different field.

My only pre-trip "experience" was a small 8-week Japanese language course and a relationship with exchange organisation AIIU. I would suggest contacting a similar non-profit organisation that has cultural exchange programs with a specific country, that way there is a greater chance of a better network of host families and support.

Thanks KellieBarnes! I've come across a few other programs I'm going to look into (AFS, CIEE), so I'll add this one to the list!

I'm personally studing in Germany right now, and I'm originally from US. It's definitely worth the experience.

Nice - how did you decide on Germany? I've been researching blogs and programs and have a good list I'm working from. Did you do online research before making your decision or did friends make recommendations?
