Hello - I am interested in a tour of Chile next year March. We (2 of us) would like to experience the South - Ushaia and the glaciers, but also Santiago.
So far I have only found tours that are in excess of 20 days - I would ideally like to go for approx 14 - 16 days max. Any suggestions? It would be ideal to 'break up' the trip in two - Santiago on one side and Ushaia on the other, but I can't find such itineraries either...
Anyone with good ideas or contacts please
OK, firstly Ushuaia is in Argentina and a long way from anywhere else. There are better places to go which tie together. Santiago to Punta Arenas by plane OR overnight bus to Puerto Montt and fly from there. It depends on your budget. Bus to Puerto Natales, about 3 hours. Spend the night there and stock up on snacks etc. Next day, bus to Torres del Paine national park. You can either camp or book a bunk in the refugios. More on that later if you are interested. Spend anything from 3-6 days in the park, depending on what sort of hiking you want to do. Then bus back to Puerto Natales and catch a bus for El Calafate in Argentina. Spend a day or two there and bus to El Chaltén. Good day hikes and back to your lodging at night. That, plus a bit of room for bad weather and returning the way you came,, will take up your available days, maybe leaving a day in Santiago either end of the trip.
