Hi! I hope you guys are able to help me here as in traveling in a weeks time does anyone know if Kota kinabalu must be guided or can it be done independently?
Do you mean Mt Kinabalu? No - there's a check-point as you start at Timpohon Gate and another just after Laban Rata which can be closed if the peak is closed due to bad weather. Neither can be passed without a guide.neutral:

To get to Kudat, a minivan from KK will take about 4 hours and costs MYR25 each person.

The mini van goes fromn the bus park on the Jalan KK By-pass, not far from the Atkinson clock tower.
