14,000 AUD for 5 months traveling Australia..is it enough??

Hi all,

That's an average budget of about AUD $93/day - each. I generally advice AUD $75/day as a minimum budget, so yeah, that sounds totally doable. The $75/day would give you beds in small dorm rooms in decent quality hostels, supermarket food to cook your own meals, a bus ticket to a next destination about once a week, and a low-budget activity about once a week. For your budget, you should be able to upgrade to a twin room every so often, or go out for lunch or dinner a couple of times a week, or maybe rent a car for a couple of stretches.

You will of course still have to watch actual expenses; it's not at all uncommon for people to blow through 2-3 times that much money per day without feeling like they're splurging - Australia's gotten mighty expensive in recent years - but since you describe yourself as travellers and should have some experience with that, I think you'll be totally fine.

My friend (who might be able to save up abit more than that) is thinking of buying a cheapish car when we get there which i will pay her back for when in Malta...so that should help with travel costs although fuel will still be an expense...

Thanks for all the info, btw Very helpful

More then enough....

That would be awesome! Hehe but we havent yet paid for any accommodation. Still think it's enough? Again, we're willing to do more things on a budget

Oh and we don't plan on working unless obviously dying of hunger heh
