It depends on where you are going and what areas you are visiting. Big towns are normally OK as are seaside places but villages and jungle areas can be trouble.
A can of mosquito spray is good, spraying around your room in the evening. A repellant helps as well as long sleeved clothes in the evening (I have given clothes a light spray before now, especially socks). Better not to be bitten.
Check with a large chemist like Boots and they can give general suggestions. Dengue fever is about in some places. Stay away from animals that might bite.
Remember tablets must be taken after you return home as parasites can still remain in your system.
Also remember the traveller's cure for diarrhoea. A small spoonful of salt washed down with a sugary drink.
Just go see your travel nurse and she will get everything sorted for you, it's the easiest way. If you're going in November you've got plenty of time

I have been to see a travel nurse today who has suggested having a rabies vaccine and Japanese Encephalitis vaccine. Did anyone else get these done? They are quite pricey at £250

Hi Ash,
We went to the travel nurse also the other day, She did mention Japanese Encephalitis but said its only advised to have between the months of march and October.
So in my case (November - March) she said not to worry about that vaccination.
However Rabies she said is a must. It last three years so for £145 that's not bad value for money
The only other one she was keen on (hence the post) was malaria!
