I got back to England last night after a months travelling round Europe doing the inter rail!
I went with 2 mates and we flew from Birmingham to krakow in Poland where we then started our trains.. We did krakow - Bratislava - Vienna - Budapest - Ljubljana - Zagreb then flew home!
In answer to your questions, I don't think it really matters when you go? If you go summer time it will obviously be 30 degrees in most places whereas if you go winter time it will be just like at home? We spent vienna in Christmas and Budapest in new year which were both unreal!!
Your other question about meeting people? I know I had 2 mates but that really doesn't matter.. You will meet people everywhere, stay in some decent hostels and you'll be fine, everyone's there for the same reason, travel and have fun! So you'll be fine mate,

Hi! I'm planning to go interrailing the summer of 2015. I personally think the summer is the best time of the year to travel because basically you just get to experience more of the countries you visit, and more things are open and in business. I haven't planned my trip that much yet, but I think I'll do a similar route as yours. You'll definetely meet other travellers, you shouldn't worry about that. If you're looking for someone to travel with, feel free to ask me. I strongly doubt that any of my friends are gonna want to travel with me, considering they are all super-boring. And, I am a girl, so travelling alone can be dangerous. Hope this was helpful!
