The fact that you openly plan to work helps but they may ask for proof of finances for a long stay. It would help to have a letter (with address and telephone number) from your uncle about putting you up till you find work.
On your first trip, have a look around and see what work is available from September onwards so if customs asks, you have ready answers.

Just thought I would send a quick reply as I arrive into Auckland on 28th August and I will be spending a year in NZ. Where are you thinking about booking your flight? I booked mine through STA travel and I got a really good deal. Think it was £540 one way with emirates.
I doubt they would check your finances again as the WHV states that you can leave and enter NZ as many times as you like within the year. I would, just to double check, ring the NZ immigration number and quickly ask them.
I wish I had an uncle out there so I wouldn't have to pay loads in accommodation

28th August is when I am coming back to the UK but hopefully I'll really enjoy it over there I will be returning in September ? I'm doing all planning etc through STA they are so helpful and the cheapest by far!
I won't be staying with my uncle for long as I'll stay in auckland for a while then I would like to head to queenstown. But I have no set plans for anything I will stay in hostels hopefully meet some people then go from there ?
Thanks for the visa info I will look into this I was hoping they wouldn't but who knows!
