I would highly recommend Pizzeria Luzzi. If you walk 2 streets past the Colosseum to via Celimontana it will be on your right hand side. Great place, and great prices. was insanely cheap and great service. There is a restaurant overlooking the Colosseum to that at night is really cool to see all the lights around.
I would also recommend buying tickets to Old Rome at the Roman forum and not at the Colosseum, as you will wait up to three times as long at the colosseum and be through in twenty minutes at the forum. Then you will be able to skip the lines at the Colosseum and get right to viewing, both tickets are included.
As for taking a bus it can be enjoyable, depends what you like. Rome is a pretty nice city to walk around, I never took a bus while I was there and everything was quite possible to see.
Also, book tickets to the vatican ahead of time online... otherwise again you will be waiting for hours possibly.

Get the Roma Pass. Not only does it include transportation, you get discounts at sites as well.
Since you haven't started your trip yet, as you supposedly make it to Rome in April, allow me humbly suggest not to take a bus.
Rome is not an American city, with large huge roads, and actually it is a very beautiful ancient city with marvels hidden at every corner, that you can see and explore only on foot. My suggestion is that you take walking tour, by yourself or an expert guide. There are many such as for example -snip- or others. Also you might want to consider to take a bike tour, but given the traffic it could be more stressful. In any case, Roman Forum, Vatican museums, Borghese Gallery, Piazza Navona, Campo de Fiori, Spanish steps, are all things you might want to see! As for where to eat, forget about Luzzo, go to Pizzeria ai Marmi, near Trastevere, also called Obitorio. There are many enchanting places in Trastevere neighborhood, one of my favorite is called Grazia & Graziella. Have fun!
I was in Rome two weeks ago with my husband and my two sons (ages 4 and 6 years).
A friend of mine , who lives in Italy for 15 years , advised me not to buy the Roma Pass but just the ticket for subway and bus valid for three days ( € 16.50 per ticket) . You should consider that the public transportation is free for children up to six years old. The Roma Pass includes all the public transportation and free access to two museums or archaeological sites, as well as some discounts. But being valid only for the municipality of Rome does not include discounts for the visit to the Vatican Museums . We stayed only three days, my friend advised me not to lose the Colosseum and St. Peter's area . We stayed in a small hotel near the Termini train station. We have found in Via Vicenza an agency , which is called -snip-, the girls at the desk placed us in a group for the next day (our second day) for a guided tour of the Colosseum and the Vatican Museums. We had a minimal expense , the children have not paid , we did not have to queue to either the Vatican and the Colosseum, we were able to admire the Roman Forum , the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica too . And all in just one day! The guide was so kind to show us what we could see with the time left . The next day we had plenty of time to walk to the center , visiting the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, the Spanish Steps, Piazza del Popolo. We then took the kids to the zoo and visited the Villa Borghese.

I wonder if it's possible to see every must see of Rome in just 3 days? is this time enough?

I know 3 days is not enough , but trying to squeeze in as much as possible. Sometimes I have found Hop on hop off buses are a nice way to cover more places in short time. But yes seeing the site on foot is the best way
I'm interested to know what people think are the best things to do in Italy, which cities would you go to, how long would you stay at each place, what would you do? I think it is going to be a ten to fourteen day trip sometime summer of 2015. Just starting to think about this.
