Welcome to India.
How many days do you have in hand? Do you know somebody in town? Have you not done any homework before landing? Anyway, as mentioned above, I would suggest you to go to South Mumbai (Andheri is north). Go for Mumbai Heritage walk or take Open Deck Bus Tour to see the heritage sites.
I won't suggest Mumbai beaches as they aren't the best in India or the world.
You'll find many like minded people in and around Colaba & Bandra who can help & guide you.
Do you have any plans after Mumbai? You haven't mentioned what is your preference. Do you like heritage sites, wildlife, city life, beaches, etc. ? Suggestions would depend on them.
As a first timer to India, I suggest you to go to Delhi-Rajasthan.
Anyway, have a nice time in India. In case you need any info, don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you so much for those replies! We have traveled away from where we were and are now loving it in fort, much more welcoming, fun and a lot to see. This is the India we were expecting.
I think we were just overwhelmed on our first day, we were jet lagged and all that we had studied of India went out e window. Back on track now.
By the way if any one knows of any travellers staying in or around fort over the next few days would be great to meet them.
Any other information, tips or experiences you would like to share with us would be greatly appreciated.
