Help with Myanmar Itinerary 15 nights

truelight has indicated that this thread is about Myanmar

You have enough time to visit the major sights. I was there May 15-June 2, 2013. It was my second visit. My first was in 1974, when there were few tourists; and many of the vehicles then were of World War II vintage. Bangkok is a good gateway. There now are flights to Mandalay from both Bangkok airports. You no longer have to backtrack to Yangon. It may be convenient for you to work with a travel agency in Myanmar before you go, or after you arrive. They can arrange flights; and hire cars and drivers at fairly reasonable cost. They also can arrange accommodations that otherwise might appear online to be fully booked; and perhaps at lower cost, too. If the agency’s quote is beyond reach, they can work with you. I arranged my itinerary (similar to yours) after arriving in Yangon. To reduce expenses, I eliminated certain things, such as English-speaking guide. Most of my drivers understood English (some better than others). The Circle Yangon train operates daily. At the station, they sell foreigners First-Class tickets, which cost the equivalent of $1 US. You probably don’t want to travel in the other coaches unless you want “atmosphere.” Many farmers take their goods to market on the train, since it’s cheaper than using other means, such as tuk-tuk. I also rode the rails from Mandalay to Pwin Oo Lwin (the train continues beyond). The fare is about $3 US; and it’s an experience you’ll never forget. Make sure you carry pristine U.S. dollars (no rips, marks, excessive folds). Entrance to many places is with dollars. VISA debit cards work at the ATMs in major cities. But the machines are few and far between; and sometimes don’t work. So bring an ample supply of cash. The main meal in Myanmar is at mid-day. So it’s wise not to eat food that has been sitting since then. I learned that lesson in 1974, when I landed in a hospital. Hope this helps.
