Honeymoon Locations

Planning a wedding was difficult, but trying to pick ONE location to go to for a honeymoon is becoming almost as difficult.

Sri Lanka. You can put together a mix of luxury beach hotel time and more adventurous touring the island. It's got safari, tea plantations, elephant riding, temples, Sigiriya fortress, and heavenly beaches with bathwater-warm seas.

My Aunt is there right now with my cousin working with the drosophila genetics program, she has nothing but kind words to speak of Sri Lanka! SO many wonderful photos! Thank you!

Try Mulanje Mountain,at the base there are really nice chalets surrounded by mountain forest, honeymooners are the most frequent occupants there, you might even meet other honeymooners on your trip, try -snip-,they organize hikes up the Mountain. There are huts at the various peaks as well, pretty cool for a honeymoon if you ask me.Or if you don't want to couple your honeymoon with adventure then Cape Maclear or Senga Bay are good for just laying back on the beach and enjoying your new found marriage in a tropical paradise. The beaches are my favourite when it comes to exploring, you could find some odd things there every now and then. Huntingdon House is the best when it comes to beautiful scenery among the Thyolo tea estates though, a lot of green forest to wander through while staying atone of the very nice Bungalows ,it's like stepping into wonderland.Anyway your call.

Good Luck

Makolo, thank you very much for the wonderful ideas. Goodness this honeymoon may need to turn into a one-month long adventure! lol

Sri Lanka is a good option, but if romance is a high priority (and it should be, on a honeymoon), I’d suggest Maldives. The beaches are spectacular and staying in one of those water villas (a hotel suite on stilts right in the water) is an amazing experience. But it’s not all just lazing on beaches, either. You can try scuba diving and swimming with whale sharks. My favourite (from my honeymoon) was night fishing –being out on the water under the stars with the moonlight catching every ripple – felt like something straight out of a painting!

What about Seychelles, Mozambique or Madagascar? I've heard nothing but really great things about it out that way. Have lovely beaches and romance but the possibility of doing some more adventurous things.

Thailand always has newlyweds visiting. Great variety of things to see and do. Fits most budgets too! Good tourist infrastructure, good transportation and good food.

Hawaii is a great location for a honeymoon. It is beautiful and the weather is usually really good. There are several islands you can choose from, each with its unique vibe. Maui is a bit more laid back and you can spend a lot of time on the beach, but if you want to go shopping than Oahu is great for that.

It really depends on what you want to do. Regardless of where you go, just make sure you enjoy each other's company!
