July 2015 Eastern Europe trip

Hi there

Busses/trains would be my usual response on how to get around - most have group deals as well that you can look into. You can see what the cost would look like for a rental car though. Split across everyone it might be an option.

3 places in 9 days only leaves 2 days in each place counting travel time and that's with one stop in each place. In my experience, traveling with kids and larger groups is generally slower than independently and that would be a really hectic schedule as an adult. I might recommend focusing on one place, and looking into day trips from there to eliminate the packing/unpacking a bit.

I haven't tried focusing on "family-friendly" activities, but I would guess that there are plenty of options in all those destinations (there are kids living there too, after all!).

If you decide to get to Hungary there are some really beautiful and interenting places to visit. I recommend you to travel first to Budapest - there are a lot of architectural sights to see, and you can find interesting places for kids also for e.g.: zoo, palace of the miracles, circus, the childrens's railway, tropiacarium ...etc. If you want to try one (or more) of the famous thermal baths of Hungary you have to try Hévíz. It is the biggest natural thermal lake in the world (wich is situated to swim). Not just the lake, but the surrounding places are worth to visit: Keszthely (the capital of Lake Balaton), Zalakaros, Sümeg, Tapolca... etc.
