Hi,
Ayer's Rock is now more (politically) correctly known as Uluru. There's a purpose-built holiday village called Yulara with an airport 2km away. It's handy for Uluru (20km) and for Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) (50km). There are a number of different accommodations there for various budgets including a camping ground and air-conditioned apartments. When we were there for a couple of nights, we hired a car for twenty-four hours and walked around Uluru at sunrise and Kata Tjuta for sunset - absolutely brilliant!
