Start researching Thailand.

1.) Over several decades it has hosted millions of low budget travellers so its tourist infrastructure is excellent, making it arguably the easiest and least intimidating "foreign" destination on the planet for first time backpackers. It's super easy to meet other backpackers, just Google "Khao San Road" and "Full Moon Party Thailand."

2.) It's covered in great detail by several guide books and there's loads of internet discussion forums and blogs so it's super easy to research.

3.) It's inexpensive.

4.) Lots of cheap and easily accessible optional countries like Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, etc. right next door.

Have fun with your research no matter you decide to go.

Cheers,
Terry

Hi, thanks for that information... apparently you need a visa tho to stay more than a month

THANKS :d

Get a 60 day Tourist Visa to begin with, then plan on visiting neighbouring countries after that.

thanks...

last question i promise haha. will £5000 be enough?

Get a cheap round trip to Bangkok and with proper research and prep that's enough money to have a freaking gas, no worries...

Terry

Airbnb can help to get low prices for stay if you search enough

In my opinion Airbnb offers no advantages for a first time backpacker to SE Asia. It makes no sense to do Airbnb as opposed to hanging out in low budget hostels where it's easy to meet innumerable other newbie first time travellers.

Different stokes.

Terry
