Unabled to use Miles to travel to Istanbul

I'm no expert but it looks like both United and Turkish are Star Alliance members so it should work. Do you need to go via Star or swap your United points to Star ones or something?

Failing that look at which other Star members fly there.

The question for me is why Turkish won't accept your points? What did they say?

Since you asked for another routing, why not just fly as far as Rome on United (Chicago to Rome is 4,800 miles), and then you can take either Thai, Delta, or Alitalia airlines to go the last 800 miles or so.

You can book your reward travel on United at the following website:
http://www.united.com/web/en-US/apps/booking/flight/searchAward.aspx

Enjoy your trip to Istanbul.

If worst comes to worst or for a flight back, norwegianair.com has some pretty cheap tickets from Istanbul to the US, like $400. Worth a look if you're having trouble cashing in your miles.

Last time I checked, Turkish Air is a United Partner. When you book your flight thru United, the Turkish Air flights should show up below the United Air flights. We flew from Houston IAH last summer to Istanbul using United points. The flight from Houston to London was on UAL, the flight from London to Istanbul was on Turkish Air.
Our daughter met us in Turkey and she used United points, but flew (1st class) on Turkish Air.

Hope this helps!
