Laos and Cambodia - Travel Tips

Hi there,
I'm planning a trip through Laos and into Cambodia and looking for recommendations on places to visit and where people would recommend to stay. I'm looking at probably following the Mekong River through the 2 countries -snip-

I have only been to Luang Prabang, which I can recommend. The center is a Unesco site, and very nice, although touristic, still with the number of temples and other sites, well worth a visit. The one thing I decided not to go to and regret it, was the Gibbon experience in the north of Laos.

I spend one day in Vientiane, the place is often snubbed, but I can not tell you why. It is quiet for a capital, and maybe lacks sights, but the place has character.

As you are combining the visit with Cambodia, I would assume you are more looking into venturing into the south of Laos (Xe Pain, and the Mekong between the two countries.)

On staying in Luang Prabang, I can only assist you in saying, not to stay at Xayana Guesthouse (although recommended by LP, it is bad, and better places are for sure available.), When moving around, I would suggest to rather use mini busses, which are a little bit quicker, and more comfortable than the state run busses. Also keep in mind that you will be in countries where Malaria and Dengue is spread, so get your shots and take your precautions.

For giving tips in accommodation, it might be good to add which kind of places you are looking for.

Have a good trip and happy planning.
