Australian winter travellers

Hi guys,

Hi.

Australia is a big country with multiple climatic regions so winter conditions will vary depending on where you are. For example, northern Australia has a monsoonal influence so in winter days are warm/hot, nights are cool and it doesn't rain. The further south you go the more typical winter weather you will get i.e. cool/cold days with rain. I am from Perth and many winter days could be mistaken for a summer's day in the UK. In other parts of Australia winter will bring frosts and snow.

The area around Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef has the northern pattern of weather in winter - warm/hot and dry (basically typical summer weather). So August will actually place you in the middle of perfect weather for exploring the Great Barrier Reef. The downside is that August is in the middle of the high season there so there will be lots of fellow tourists, you will face inflated prices and you will need to book things ahead of time.

Further south August will start bringing warmer temperatures as Spring approaches. Spring is a perfect time to visit as days will typically be warm, bright and sunny; wildflowers will be coming out; and animals are becoming increasingly active. It's also warm enough for the beach without being too hot. (I am speaking as someone from Perth though, which is blessed with amazing weather). I think no matter where you are there will lots of travellers around in August.

Hope this helps!

Heyy, i've just booked my flight for 27th august flying to sydney When are you planning on flying out/where to? x

Hi,

I am also travelling to Australia in the winter (Perth in July) its still reasonably warm compared to our winters but I haven't let it not being so hot put me off since WA seems to have higher temps and NT next door is best going when its our winter in UK because its not as humid.

Then ill spend November-January/February in Sydney in the summer.

I want to go everywhere but plan on my two years so really want to get my farming done while its Australian winter so I can have more time off in the summer.

Heyy im travelling to cairns 22nd June going solo so I'm pretty nervous! When are you heading there? X
