I'm a 28 year old guy from Canada. I'm going to be arriving in thailand a little later than you - the first week of May. I'm going to head down to the islands for a bit and then head north. I plan to make it over to vietnam at some point as well.

Sorry for the very slow response - really good to hear from you all.
Sadly my gran was been taken into hospital a couple of weeks ago and we were quite worried so I was holding off from any travel plans until I was sure she was OK.
She's picked right up now (hurrah) so I am going to get the diary out and try and rearrange plans - will be in touch!!

I'm not going until the 7th of May but I've got little hesitation about going during the protests - I really don't think that it will be a problem as long as common sense is used.
