You'd best just claim it back on your travel insurance (theft of items section) policy.
Thousandsof items go missing out of bags on a daily basis around the world. It's mainly down to baggage handlers - but contents will also go missing when luggage is taken away for a thorough search. Your case is - sadly, nothing unusual. The contents could have been stolen anywhere from London to the other destinations.
Consider the goods stolen/missing and put in a claim.
Wherever possible - just take hand luggage only and hang on to it. Problem solved.
