Hello everyone,
Hi Jake,
Sounds like a good trip Northern SEA is a beautiful part of the world! If you are looking of traveller in Bangkok you'll find tonnes of them (and cheap places to stay) around the Khao San road. But I wouldn't worry about meeting people you'll meet people everywhere.
Laos is a very chilled out place, very relaxed lovely people。
If you have the time while in Vietnam rent a motorbike out and tour around the north for a couple, it is truly amazing and defiantly worth every second, you'll see the country in such a better light than sitting on buses or trains!
enjoy the trip!
The Gibbon experience is more than 2 thumbs up :=), one of my best experiences.
Try to take the over night boat ride in Tonle Sap in Cambodia after Angkor Wat.
Backpacking in SEA, no plan is a good plan.
You should be fine from Bangkok down south all the way to Singapore, road/train/flight are all pretty easy and good here.
In Malaysia, try the jungle railway from Kota Bahru to Gemas before going to Singapore.
Enjoy your travel.
Just go slow. Breathe. Take it in. I see to may travelers in a rush, when they're already where they want to be...
Hey there sepilokfui and rashreeed,
Thank you for your advice Sorry about my slow responce, i havent manged to log in for a week or so. Been doing research and talking to people who been giving me tips and etc.
The Gibbon experience sounds awesome. Do i need to book it before i go or can i just turn up and pay for it? Also how long is it?
I have till the end of March to experience the culture, people and the stunning land, it should be enough time to see everything i want to see. Are there any similar things out there that i could do?
I want to do a few hikes and treks whilst im there, and so far the gibbon experience is the only thing i have found. What can i do in Cheing Mai?
And thank you rushreeed, i been travelling with my family before, and it was always rush rush rush, im gonna take it easy
Just make the best out of your travel and please do keep safe. Have a nice trip.
Good to hear jake. Have fun. If you make it through banlung in northeastern cambodia (good trekking, nature, and stuff here...) gimme a shout.

Jake,
"Flight of the Gibbon" is very special, ecotour on top of the un-touched rain forest, unspeakable :-). Somemore, 10% of the profit go to wildlife conservation. Since you are going Mae KamPong, which is in Mae On district, you could stay at a Homestay design and built by a British guy named John. His wife run a place called John's House (mid price) or John's Hut (budget). It is absolutely beautiful house they built. From their house, you can actually walk to the Gibbon place.
I didn't pre-book the Gibbon when I was there in Dec 2008, but told them I was coming. You have to be there early, before 8.30am for the morning session. The duration was 3 hours. If you miss the morning session, you would have to wait for the afternoon one. I think morning is better because the rain forest was beautiful in morning sun.
In ChiangMai, I will recommend you
- the Night Safari, better than the one in Singapore.
- the Micro Flight run by ChiangMai Sky Adventure in Doi Saket. I love it!
- The Doi Ithanon (the highest mountain in Thailand) National Park. There is relaxing nature trails for trekking and very beautiful waterfall.
Don't forget to walk the night market, especially the one on Sunday night. I was in Thailand 8th time, for all the night markets I went, the ChiangMai Sunday night market was the best one.
Good Luck and have lot of fun!
Asia travel is really good and fantastic experience. Cheap travel with nice views. Even I’m traveling in Europe now, I still can't forget the Asia Experience. I've been in Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines. Cultural and adventure in the place is really priceless!
