Is greyhound a good idea?

Hi everyone
I'm an international student who plan to make a trip between Albuquerque and Lubbock.
I tried to find some nice deal on airline, but it seemed not a good idea. All ticket are over 500 bucks, and it will take over TEN HOURS!!
I don't have a driver license right now it's impossible for me to rent a car and drive to Lubbock.
So the only choice for me is greyhound. I checked the website and it told me I have to spend 9 hours on the bus. I have to leave at 11am and I'll arrive at Lubbock around 9 pm. And the price is pretty good, $70 from ABQ to LBK and $80 from LBK to ABQ.
Rumors say greyhound is pretty...ummm..unsafe. So I just wanna know who can help me with this? Is greyhound a good idea to make this trip?
Thank you very much for that =)

i took a greyhound from new york to north carolina once. I cant quite remember how long it was but i think it was longer than 10 hours. I didnt feel unsafe doing it, but then again I am a mid 20s yo male. Perhaps it would be different if I was a 16 yo girl.

I wouldn't call Greyhound unsafe as much as uncomfortable. It will get you there, but if I were you, I would get a driver's license too. What do you use for identification if you don't have a license?

I took Greyhound from Tampa to Miami (a 4 hour drive by car) and it took 9.5 hours!!! They stop in every town that has a Greyhound station on the way. It is more uncomfortable than it is unsafe. If you're tall, you might want to consider chopping off a few inches of legs because they wont fit!! I'm not sure if there is a train that goes that route, but I would DEFINITELY look into it before choosing Greyhound.

Safe travels

10 hours to fly between abq and lubbok , texas ??? no way , are you sure ? mayeb with a long sit between flights in dallas or something , did you check american airlines , headquarters is in dallas and i know their smaller planes ( american eagle ) fly from dallas to lubbok

if you can afford the train TAKE IT , an experience to remember

if not , do the bus ; should be no worry.

it will take a while , like someone else said - you'll stop at every little town along the way , but then again thats part of the fun of taking the bus. both bus and trian will take hours more than flying .

took the bus oh-so-long ago from detroit to north carolina , had a blast !!! met tons of cool & interesting people.

dont loose your head , keep your eyes and ears open and use good judgment about people and places and you'll do just fine

be well & enjoy the rest of the day

I just checked the Southwest airlines website--and they have nonstop flights both directions that take just about 1 hour each. Rates vary from $104 each way to $170 each way.

I say book far enough ahead to get the $104 rate each way and fly. The extra $60 total will be worth the savings in time, safety, and comfort.

Hi Mic,
I did several searches and obviously I got the wrong site.
And I think I might take the greyhound between Albuquerque and Santa Fe (and maybe train). I don't think a 9-hours greyhound will be a good choice. And Luckily I still booked the ticket between ABQ and LBK for 220$, two trips. this price is higher than usual but I still can accept it. And next time I'll book the tickets 2 month earlier.. in this case I will only spend $74.

And thank you all for telling me your experiences about it. I might take greyhound later,,,only for fun but not for travelling.
