Im leaving the uk to phuket later this month, my flight makes a brief stop in kuala lumpur, and i have just noticed it says check for visa transit requirements..... so do i need a transit visa for this brief 2 hour stop????

It depends on your nationlity, but looks as though many dont need them x
Brady, I am pretty sure you don't need one to visit Malaysia, just as the same for Malaysian to go to UK. Visitor visa shall be given upon you landed in Malaysia custom.
It is the "CommonWealth" countries. You shall be given a stamp visa for 30-180 days at the airport.
