Hi guys!
Im 21, and planing on going traverling to australia then new zealand in Feb 2011. I will be going over on a working holiday visa for a yearas i have allready applyed and been approved. i will be Traverling on my OWN and to be honest the thought is quiet scary. but i hear you meet so many people on your travels that you never feel alone.
Im haveing trouble looking for the right flight for me, as iv been searching for an open ended ticket on the web and havent been able to come across any. so i was just wondering if any one could help me out on a few difrent web sites that may my be suitable for what i want.
The other thing is should i plan my routes from home or just go with the flow when im out there. i no theres pros and cons for both and just need a nudge in the right direction.
Hey, are you going on a WHV to Aus or NZ? Personally, I would just buy a one-way ticket to the first country. It's just too limiting to book a return etc as I guarantee you, you will change your plans a million times along the way as you meet people and stay longer here and there! It's really cheap to fly between Aus and New Zealand anyway (Quantas and Air New Zealand both do one-way for about $300 from Syd & Aukland for example, sometimes as little as $200).
Defo don't plan your routes - book your first backpackers for your first few days, then you will meet people and you will be able to make plans from there!
Air Asia fly to Aus really cheap by the way - you need to book each leg separately but you can save loads by doing it (thereby saving more money for the fun times when you get there!)
I got a WHV for australia, didnt no you needed one for NZ.
so i should just book a ticket in to australia then. I heard internal flights are quiet cheap so i think ill just do that.. So you think i should just buy a 1 way ticket from the UK to australia and take it from there? it all sounds scary lol but its all part of the experience. Thanks for all the information.

If you want to work there . If you just want to visit New Zealand for up to three months without working, then all you need is to arrive with a return ticket ouf of the country again.
Hi Daniel,
I'm planning on doing the same sort of thing in January! Live for a little while in Australia and work, and then move on to travel around Asia. I was considering a Round the World Trip ticket, but even that was too limiting for me, because you have to choose your destinations ahead of time.
I traveled to Europe this summer for two months, and the biggest thing I learned from that trip was not to over plan. I had planned out all my routes and bought a return ticket, and I felt so limited to have to leave out of London at that specific time, and I didn't end up following my pre-planned route at all. You meet people and you hear of amazing things you never thought of while at home on the internet.
So buy a one way ticket to Australia. That's what I've decided on doing. And trust me, you'll meet people easily and instantly, and want to go with them, and if you've pre-planned, you'll be unable to be flexible enough to do what you'll inevitably end up wanting to do. And writing this to you has just made me feel better about what I'm doing, cause I'm a little scared too!
