Places along your planned trip route that you shouldn't miss:

LA to San Francisco: Take Hwy 1 past Malibu and up to Santa Barbara--then Hwy 101 up to see Solvang, Morro Bay, then Hearst Castle, then take Hwy 1 along the coast to see Carmel (and its famous 17 mile drive) and Monterey (Monterey aquarium)--then head up I-280 to San Francisco

In San Francisco, ride a cable car, go along the Embarcadero, then through Chinatown and Little Italy, visit Fisherman's Wharf and Ghiradelli Square, then visit the Golden Gate Park, and cross the Golden Gate Bridge and head to Sonoma Valley or Napa Valley to see the wineries.

Head north through the Redwood National Park and visit the "Trees of Mystery".

Oregon's coastline is dramatic--but then so also is the inland route--so I say take either the coast route or I-5 up to Portland and stop and get some tea (this town is known for its Roses and its restaurants that offer 100s of different teas).

After entering Washington, stop at the Mt. St. Helens visitor center, then head on up to Olympia National Park (only rainforest in the mainland US), take the ferry from Port Angeles up to Vancouver Island (Canada) and visit the city of Victoria (a lot like cities in England) and then Butchart Gardens. Take the ferry from here up to Vancouver, visit that town, then come back down to Seattle (in the US) and visit the Space Needle and Experience Music Project (at the base of the Space Needle). Also check out all the coffee shops here. Head out east of town and visit the Snowqualmie Falls (higher than the Niagara Falls)--then head on out-of-town continuing east.

In Montana, visit Glacier National Park, then cut south to Yellowstone National Park, Grand Tetons National Park and Jackson Hole--then head on east to Chicago. From here, head on to Cleveland and stop at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame--then continue on to Hershey, Pennsylvania (where they have an amusement park and they make lots of chocolates). Then from here go to New York City (you might also consider a stop in Washington, D. C. on your way to New York City.

Have fun
