the only and the best way to make it is to hire a bedouin guide through your trip he can also cook for you during the trip and guide you through the white desert as it is a place you must visit and shouldn't miss, as long as you will hire a 2X4 car , they take 100 or 150 Egyptian pound per day I think .

Thanks for your information. I see you are from the Bahariyya oasis. I will certainly keep you in mind. I assume you perfectly know how to handle a 4x4 in the dessert (because I don't)?
My plan is to drive from oasis to oasis by road and stay 1-2 days in an oasis from where I will hire a guide to explore the surroundings. I heard it is quite an annoyance to (self)drive in this area because of the police escorts, I don't how much of this is true.
