Hello Myself and two friends are going to Iceland from 2nd to the 7th of November. We haven't made a definitive plan yet but we intend to spend the first and last day in Reykjavik and travel along the west coast for the majority of our trip. We're thinking of going to the Blue Lagoon on the first day and then travel up North West, perhaps to Olafsvik and maybe as far as Isafjorour. Could anyone recommend good places to see, and whether the roads in these areas will be accessible at that time? Or is it even recommended to rent a car at that time of year? Any info would be great! Thanks in advance
I went at the beginning of December and two things surprised me -
1. It was really mild (and wet!)
2. It didnt get light until 11am and was dark again at 3
You need to bear that in mind when planning excursions as some things are no fun in the dark...I guess Nov won't be as dark but you'd be as well to check it out.
We rented a car and drove to Geysir and Gullfoss- the driving is easy once out of town as there are few roads. Even Reykjavik isnt busy or confusing compares with most large towns in Europe. You may want to check out www.driverabroad.com which has info on driving and which rental companies operate in Iceland. I used Sixt and they were very good-picked us up from the hotel etc and wasnt too expensive.
