We just did an interview with Colin Wright from Exile Lifestyle who travels around the world full-time. It's interesting because he lives in a new country every four months and the audience decides where this will be by voting.
Nearly 4 years of life in a backpack for me. I bought a campervan in New Zealand when I first started traveling, and have used that as my summer base for the last 4 seasons. Then when it gets cold I head north through Asia.
Spent some time in India acting as a motorcycle guide in the Himalaya. Where I also did high altitude training of running and mountain biking.
This year I ended up in the UK and got a job as a motorcycle dispatch rider. I loved the excitement of motorcycling through the crowded, chaotic streets of London, a town I was born in, but haven't visited in 20 years. I don't know London like I use to and one day on a motorcycle being constantly lost in pouring cold rain was enough, and I quit the next day!
I've written a few travel magazine articles, but not sure I'd like to make a career out of it. I basically hate working and will avoid it if I can.
In Australia now and about to head to Sri Lanka for Christmas then back to New Zealand for New Year and my lovely camper and a NZ summer!
I would suspect that most people don't have the funds to travel continuously.
Many countries have restrictions on lengths of stay and working if you are a foreigner and a Visa would be required which are not always easy to get.
Jeanie99 - what a negative post! I know loads of people who travel for many years. Yes, countries have restrictions on length of stay but, for instance, I can stay in New Zealand or Canada for 6 months on a UK passport without having to go to an embassy for a visa. A lot of countries in Central/South America and Asia will allow you to exit and a day or so later return for a new passport stamp.
Like Dodger I've been travelling full time for just over 4 years. I can only comment on my position.
I worked full time through university so came out nearly debt free then worked a full and a part time job in London. Did that for several years then sold my property well, threw the money in the bank and quit my job!
I bought a truck to live in and drove round Europe and Africa for a year or so. I sold that and rode a motorcycle around Alaska, Canada and down the West coast of the USA then down the other side. I'm currently in India for 6 weeks then I'm off to New Zealand to get another motorcycle and see what happens.

I envy you! I would love to travel continuously but having a hard time saving the funds for the ticket for starters!!
I know you could employ me to carry your baggage for you lol!!

Lets get one thing straight, factual information is not negative it's life as it is and is what most people like myself prefer when I am asking a question.
To travel continuously in answer to the question and as I said you would need funds most people are unable to do this and have to work to cover the cost.
That is not traveling continuously it's called working in another country and traveling between jobs.
And incidentally I don't appreciate anyone talking to me as though I am an idiot, I
have been traveling since the1960s and am an experienced traveler not everyone talks about all their experience l like you do, try coming down from your ivory tower and smell the roses.
Feel like I'm interupting something...but I'm only three months into an intended future in full time travel! A real newbie!! Haha it's a pretty exciting way to get by! At the moment I don't have to work but once $$ runs low I'm going to slow the pace a little and live a few months at a time in each place to work a little, really get the feel for where i am.
There is nothing holding me anywhere and likewise nothing to make me move on in a hurry if I really like a place!
It's greAt hearing what others have done & the paths they've taken this could be a useful discission!
try coming down from your ivory tower and smell the roses.
Let's keep things friendly please; personal attacks are not welcome here.

Nowadays many people can work online, from anywhere in the world. They're not settling down in one place to work, but really working while travelling, taking more or less time out of each week - regardless of where they are - to keep up the cashflow. Especially when travelling through Asia and South America, you don't need that much income to travel, and even a moderately successfuly website could supply the funds to keep doing so. ().

Would be nice to have the option to travel longer for a while, but fulltime travelling would not be my cup of tea so the speak. I admire the ones who do it and can do it, whatever way (working on the road, being a millionair or whatever), but somehow for me, the diversity of life is much more important than just travelling. I know, travelling and visiting different countries, experiencing cultures, great nature and fantastic people is also a way of diversity, but it's still travelling. But believe it or not, I actually like working as well and the social activities related with it, everyday life, a great home, family, friends and my car lol.
I have enough non-working days a year to fulfill the desire to travel, but still have the wish to make a 6-12 month trip somewhere during my life...who knows At least I would definately choose totally different countries or parts of the world, as I would definately get bored when travelling through countries like India for months.
very much busy now a days
