Just curious if people are traveling this year--or staying locally due to the economy?
Staying at home. My employer is very busy and we expect to be working in and around that weekend with a little time off. Not complaining, though. Best wishes to all.

We're doing what we do every year. Spending Christmas Eve driving to Chicago with all the gifts and 2 days worth of food. We eat, open gifts then head to a hotel and watch cable TV - don't have cable at home (but now have Apple TV for streaming stuff - WOOHOO!). We return to Beerman's mother's apt for Christmas dinner at noon so we're back home at a reasonable time to celebrate our own gift-giving.
Because of some family moving next year, we may be able to spend Christmas in the Caribbean! They've got everything but snow!! (Thank you, Jimmy Buffett!)
Forgot to mention those moving next year are not moving to the Caribbean! Though, the Caribbean does have everything but snow!

Staying home in Las Vegas. My mom is now 90 and not up to traveling anymore. Besides, what other city in the world reminds people what Christmas is all about as does LAS VEGAS!!

Yeah, Vegas--that's the first place I think about when I think about Christmas (ROFLMAO).
Personally, I'll be in New York City again (15th year in a row)--probably at Macy's, the skating rinks at Rockefeller Center and in Central Park, the FAO Schwarz toy store and I'll also visit Times Square. Too bad those places have such poor Christmas and New Years traditions compared to Vegas.

It is hard to beat NYC for Christmas and New Year. You have a good tradition going Gary.
However, if you choose Las Vegas, we have: a fake New York Times Square (New York-New York), a fake Eiffel Tower (Paris), a fake St. Mark's Square (Venetian), a fake Lake Como (Bellagio), a fake Trevi Fountain (Caesars Palace), a fake South Seas (Mandalay Bay), a fake Egyptian pyramid (Luxor), a fake King Aurthur's Castle (Excalibur), a fake Monaco (Monte Carlo), a fake Colosseum (Caesars Palace), a fake Italian Palace (Pallazzo), a fake gondola ride (Venetian), a fake erupting volcano (Mirage), a fake pirate battle (Treasure Island), a fake Statue of Liberty (New York-New York), a fake Statue of David (Caesars Palace), a fake Carnival in Rio (Rio), a fake New Orleans (Orleans), a fake Spanish Steps (Caesars Palace), a fake Arc de Triomphe (Paris).
Well, I could go on, but you get the picture. Where else can you get so many faux cities and monuments in one city? Nowhere else is the answer! As we say in Vegas: "If it is worth doing, it is worth overdoing!"

Christmas has become so commercial now in the USA (Xmas music on the radio before Halloween, sterile white, Xmas lights up in early Nov, plastic Xmas trees even in Oregon, etc.) that I yearn for the good old days of live Christmas trees and family dinners. Since I have no family any more, it's just my Jack Russell Terrier and me here in Portland wishing for snow. We could drive a few miles up to Mount Hood for the snow, but I like it at my front door as well. Bah Humbug, bring the color back to Christmas please!
I know not all members are Christian nor celebrate Christmas. But, I'm liking it (the thread, that is) so stickied it. FYI - I'm a humbug kinda person but still enjoying the repartee.
