I applied for my Working Holiday Visa on the Oz Immigration Website (http://www.immi.gov.au/e_visa/working-holiday.htm ) on a Thursday night and they had it e-mailed to me by that Sunday...they seem to be pretty efficient...
This visa is for 18-30 y/o so I assume you are safe to apply a week or two before your 31st....
A lot of my mates went through agencies though who were pretty helpful and would be the best to advise...(trailfinders, visafirst, visabureau..)

That's so quick and good to know! I think i'lll probably apply on the Australian Immagration website too.
I'd prefer to prolong it to Mid March but not sure I should chance it.

What matters is the application date; not when they grant it. So you can theoretically really wait till the last day - although they do use the time in Australia to determine the date, so don't wait till midnight!
And of course, there's always a chance of the website undergoing maintenance, or your own internet connection having problems or somesuch, which means that a margin of error of at least a few days would be advisable.
Make sure you use the Immigration site.
I had thought about using one of the agencies, but after a good read on here I realised it was a waste of money!
Immigration website is idiot proof (I used it!) and it took a matter of hours.
