So, I'm hoping to start a year long trip to Europe and possibly southeast Asia in about six months. I am a poor college senior and am planning on traveling as cheaply as I can using any unconventional means necessary (hitchhiking, walking, couchsurfing.org, sleeping in bus stations, ect.). I heard that you can hang around at airports and buy cheap seats from no shows as a "stand by passenger". Is this legit? I'm very very flexible with time and I'd have no problem hanging around an airport for a couple days if it would take a chunk out of the ticket price. If this is true, how does a person do this? Any other tips for getting me across the atlantic?
