Yangon, Myanmar to Chiang Mia, Thailand.

I will be arriving in Yangon, Myanmar on February 9th, 2012 and am fortunate enough to not have any time restrictions for my trip through Northern Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. After HOURS of internet research I am still not certain if it is possible to cross from Myanmar to Thailand by road or boat? Tachiileik appears to be a possibility, but would require some back tracking. Is Mae Hong Son a possibility? Any information would be helpful!

I know it's possible to cross and its fairly easy. I don't know if it was boat or car as my ex girlfriend done it this. I remember she was at Chiang Rai then went accross to Burma, but thats all.

Hope all goes smoothly

It's not possible to enter Thailand legally from Myanmar by road or boat - the only way is to fly, unless this has changed very recently. Have a look at which gives some more info on the subject. also mentions that it is virtually impossible.

bex is right. However there is a direct flight from Yangon to Chaing Mai once a week for the same price as the flight to Bkk. At least there was a few months back. It was on Air Asia.

Thank you for the info!!
It looks like I will be flying out of Myanmar to Chaing Mai.
I appreciate everyone's help.
I will update this post if I find a way to cross by land!
