I went to thailand in october for a month and this entailed staying in bangkok for 4 days. Biggest mistake was not getting everything done and you dont see many travel places to help you out, they all just con you!! my advice..
Book it!! Looks amazing! and tbh id say thats cheap! i was charged around £50 just to go see the temples and it was the day after landing - we overlayed and they didnt offer refunds! We then payed another £50 (each) to go to the floating markets although this was a nice day out, it was a rip off when we could have just got a taxi for cheaper.
I didnt really see many travel agents offering day trips, just tuk tuks trying to get you to go to markets etc and although this is good, i didnt fly to the other side of the world to see ONLY markets! - my 4 days were wasted!
Other tips about after your intro week, get used to the underground metro! we managed to see all of bangkok central using the metro and skytrain. really easy to use and close to everything! maybe print off a metro map on the internet before you go so you get the idea when you arrive, its really cheap too!
Other tips.. crazily enough, a tuk tuk will drive you near enough anywhere around bangkok for less than a pound.... under the condition you go to a suit shop or a jewellery shop etc. They are all in it to rip you off! if you want to be tight, agree to go, walk around the shop and get back in the tuk tuk, doesnt matter whether you buy something or not, he gets commision just for taking you there. Also, you will have people (thais) come up to you in the street and offer a helping hand, point you in the right direction. This, although at the time you wont realise, is a complete con!!! they convince you to go to travel shops and they see £££ signs as soon as english or non thai's walk in.
Just be weary! personally i wouldnt hire a bike (you'll see why when you land in airport and you see departures covered in bandages!!!) it is absolutely crazy!!!
Overall, its an amazing experience! go see the go go bars etc, you cant go to thailand without saying you saw them! its an experience if nothing!! lol
I also spent 3 weeks in phuket, let me know if you want some advice there. Its gorgeous!!

Thailand has always been one of the top places I want to visit and when I came across this link I thought this was perfect. I was possibly thinking of spending a month in Thailand, so this would be a good week to start things off then I can go looking around the rest of it.
I agree, I thought it was quite cheap, so that could be the deciding factor for me just going for it.
Is Phucket any good? any recommendations of places to go?
You are a fellow Brit, how much generally do Thailand flight tickets cost (I have no idea as I have never travelled further than Europe to the main tourist areas).

A month is good but from my experience and from what people have told me, Bangkok is like marmite, you either love it or hate it and a week is enough time there! lol so do fly about.
Phuket is beautiful I spent 3 weeks there and visited Nai harn (right at the bottom of the island) really nice for surfing etc but a very quiet place!
Kata & Karon are like sister towns and are great for eating, a little night life but nothing drastic and then Patong is where it all happens... lady boys and crazy nights out etc!!
You can find accomodation for £10 a night so its pretty cheap but I wouldnt say anything else is tbh. As soon as they see english or british people they double their prices!! so always knock them down, alot!
You will see alot of people advertising cheap flights from Bangkok to the other areas within Thailand, personally i would book flights once there instead of booking them here as it will save you money, plus you can decide where you want to go once youve met people at the ozintro and found out about other places, the North of thailand is apparently the place to be.
I took £1200 with me for the month, had already paid for flights and accomodation so id say its pretty expensive to think i spent a thousand pound on food in a month and barely went out drinking!
I would hire a bike once you are out of bangkok though, its really cheap to hire and fill up and the roads are quieter but still be careful!
I paid £1050 for flights to bangkok & phuket, 4 nights in bangkok and the rest of the month in Phuket. I thought this was cheap but you can get flights for £550 and flights within thailand are fairly cheap.

Im going back to Thailand this summer, for the fourth time From Heathrow you can often get an indirect flight for around the £350-£400 mark and a direct for about £570. Personally, I wouldn't stay in Bangkok for longer than 3 nights as it does get very wearing and im from London so I like citys!
Stay down Koh San road. People like to be pretentious and say don't stay down there its full of travelers but thats the point! You will meet a lot of people there and have a laugh. I would then... Actually, im flying from India to Thailand then Laos etc this summer but we are in Thailand for a month... I made this rough itenary for it yesterday. From my experiences this is the best route to take for a month but its tailored to my preferences anyway.. here it is

Thanks for the great advice, this is exactly what I am looking at gauging from people who has experienced it all before.
As I mentioned I would be looking at staying in Thailand for a month, but travelling all over Thailand so that will include Bangkok, Phuket etc...
£1,200 is quite expensive if you don't include flights and accommodation, is Thailand known for being quite expensive? or is it just one of those things where you lose track of money whilst there?
Those flights seem to be reasonable enough, is that just a single flight? Are you able to fly into Thailand without a return flight? as I know some countries are funny about this...
During your tailored month's route what type of things will you be doing there? have you got a set itinerary of things to do whilst in those places? or just see what takes your fancy when you are there?
There certainly is a lot to think about, especially as this is one country of many...
Tbh mate, Thailand is really easy to travel. For that stint im going to be spending £20 a day. When I was last there I ended up spending £3.50 a day in Bangkok (thats food and accommodation) It really isnt expensive at all, you just need to be shrewd with your money as people will try and rip you off a bit if they can tell your'e new.
We are just going to do what we fancy really. In Samui last time it was my birthday so we went on a day long sea fishing trip. it worked out about £15 each and it was a really fun day. You got to eat what you caught (something ive always wanted to do)
In Phangan this time were probably going to rent a Jeep for a day or two, normally about £16 a day.
There's so much to do. Roughly plan were you're going then just do whatever takes your fancy when your there. The freedom is the beauty of it

I did Thaintro at the end of Jan this year.. best thing I did.. I decided to travel alone and there was 19 people on my group. Met some great people and carried on travelling with some of them.. You do do some great things on the week tour.. only thing I would say is try and make it the one that coincides with the full moon party as the travelling would be included.. Although I did the half moon party which I thought was awesome and my tour date started on the 25th.
I did Phuket, but only Patong.. and didnt like it at all! Too touristy and expensive. Although I did the zip lining which was amazing. I have been told other parts of Phuket is meant to be cool though.
