€50 a day should be OK if you eat cheaply, often using mini marts, etc rather than cafes and restaurants. Some drinks? You could pick up a few bottles and take them back to your accommodation. If you go out, you will then drink less at bars, etc.

Hi,
I think 50 euros a day is possible, however food and drink in Amsterdam can be expensive, so best to shop around and plan your time here in advance.
Bazaar on the Albert Cuypstraat is very reasonably priced and the portions are huge. They offer moroccan and african dishes. http://www.bazaramsterdam.nl/ It is situated in a converted church and is well worth a visit. You are within walking distance of the Museumplein also.
Another great restaurant is situated just around the corner from the Red Light district, it's called Thai Bird and again, the portions are immense and it is pretty cheap- just under 15 euros pp for rice/noodles and a main dish. http://www.thai-bird.nl/ They have a snack bar over the road from the restaurant if you fancy a more informal cafe atmosphere, the food is even cheaper in the snack bar.
Maoz falafel cafes are dotted around the city, they are super cheap and very filling! http://www.maozusa.com/restaurants/locations/amsterdam
Drinks are a little more expensive than other European countries and cocktails and mixers (gin, vodka etc) are really expensive, so I'd probably just recommend sticking with Heineken. The Van Gogh museum is open late on Fridays until 10pm, you can get drinks there and they have live music on too.
I'd recommend buying a copy of Time Out Amsterdam magazine at the station/airport when you arrive, they often have vouchers/offers for restaurants and bars and often do features on what to do in Amsterdam on a budget.
You can check out this website for info on travelling around the city and museum cards which save you money on admission. http://www.iamsterdam.com/
Have a great time!
Thanks for your help, i´ll check all the websites. is Berlin cheapear than Amsterdam? or is it the other way round?
I guess Berlin is a bit cheaper, but it really depends what you're looking for. My experience is that it's a bit easier to get around on a lower budget in Berlin than in Amsterdam.
One great thing to get when visiting Berlin to lower costs and get a cultural experience is to get the - it's particularly cheap with your student card and it's pretty fun. Loads of museums!
Another way to save money is to get the Berlin City Tour Card which gives you access to pretty much all modes of transportation within the city of Berlin, and you can even add Potsdam to it by paying a little more. It's a great way to save money and get around easily.
Hope this is useful!
