Extension of schengan holiday visa for australian

Hi I'm an Ausie traveller that wants to do 6 months of travelling through Europe with out working. I have plenty of money to fund myself but I can't seem to get any clear answer on how it's possible to stay over the 90day period we get as an Australian. Iv heard you can get get holiday extension visas in special circumstances but I'm not to sure how to obtain them or if they even exist. Any information on this topic would be great. Thanks guys

Oh FFS - the forum just ate my reply. An abbreviated version of what I just wrote:

For exempt nationalities (US, Canada, Australia, etc) the rules state that you can stay in Schengen countries for a maximum of 90 days in a 6 month period. The 90 days do not have to be consecutive.

Non-Schengen countries include the UK, Ireland, Romania, Bulgaria, Andorra, Monaco, Cyprus and the Balkan states. Most of these countries allow you to stay for 90 days each. Intersperse these countries with your Schengen countries and you can essentially stay in Europe for over 3 years - assuming you can afford it!

If you want to stay longer than 90 days, you will need a Long-Stay Visa.

Here is the info on how to get a Long-Stay Visa

When in doubt, contact an EU Embassy/Consulate.

Thanks for your help I think I'm goin to apply for a long stay visa. I'm already a month into my holiday so I better pull my finger out hahah thanks again
