NEW.....i have no idea what im doing!

Just joined here and need some advice desperatley.

How long are you planning on travelling for? Are you planning to work in any of the countries you want to visit?

On a British passport, you don't need a visa for Thailand. You will be granted a 30-day tourist visa on arrival at the airport.

If you want to work you will need Working Holiday visas for both Australia and New Zealand.

I'm not sure how things work for Brits entering the States.

A round the world (RTW) or multi-destination ticket is your best bet for flights. Pretty much all travel agents offer them these days.

First of all, calm down Danny. You're not "desperate" for anything. You're planning a very easy trip that won't be difficult to research and prepare for properly.

1.) For a westerner Thailand is arguably the easiest foreign culture destination in the world. It has a VERY extensive infrastructure for foreign backpackers and there are LOADS of excellent guide books and travel forums that cover every possible aspect of the country in great detail. It's one of the absolute best destinations for a first time, nervous traveller from the west.

2.) Australia, New Zealand and the US are even easier. They speak the same language as you do, they listen to mostly the same music, eat mostly the same food, watch mostly the same movies, etc. These are not exotic, tricky destinations by any measure.

Bottom line, you have 10 - 11 months to plan a very easy trip. There is a wealth of information easily available to you. No need to panic.

Have fun with your research.

Cheers,
Terry

Just read your Reply #3...

Since budget is an issue then why choose expensive western countries like Australia, New Zealand the US? That makes no sense.

Consider instead going only to SE Asia for your first trip. It's inexpensive and as mentioned above the backpacker infrastructure is extensive and the guide books cover it VERY well for an inexperienced traveller.

Cheers,
Terry

thanks for your advice terry,

the reason i have chosen nz and oz is because i have always wanted tov go there..... its not about money as such, but i have read some forums on here saying its really expensive in oz and nz. i just want enough time to say ive had the time of my life and i think 3-4months is enough time to say that.

thailand some of my friends have been there and they loved it....

i just aint got a clue how to start to even plan anything like this.

the most ive done is 5 weeks in majorca....

Thanks

Danny

Buy some guide books, do some reading, remember that Google is your best friend, and never forget that you've chosen easy destinations that are not tricky or intimidating in the slightest and you have tons of time to prepare. No worries.

Have fun.

Cheers,
Terry

Thanks terry much appreciated

I don't think 3 months is anywhere near enough time to do a trip like that justice. You say you want the experience of being in those countries, but what sort of memories will you have if you come back thinking "I wish I could have done this and I wish I had had the money to do that". Australia, NZ and US are packed with great things to do that usually end up costing a lot.

Since time and money are a factor I think you'd be better getting a return flight to SEA. Maybe KL or Bangkok, whichever you can get cheapest. Then set a plan on traveling around SEA and really seeing it and experiencing it. Leave Aus and NZ for another time when you can then just focus on them, and then make the US another separate trip, or add on depending on your finances at that time.

i know its hard to leave places out, but sometimes less is more!

grrr the only thing about time is that im on medicaqtion and can only get a 4 month prescrition at a time..... i know its silly but thats is literally the only thing thats stopping me from staying anywhere longer....... its not so much money either becase i guess i wouldnt be going untill next year so i have what 12 months to save up which is prity easy to do i guess...

this is a once in a lifetime oppertunity for myself and i really want to do it all at once. to say ive done it and if i wanted to go re-visit a place then so be it but i really do want to do it all in one trip.

im looking for some good advice and how long u thik i should stay out there and how much imoney i would neeed.... literally as much advce as i can get.

ThANKS
DANNY
