Rio has a dozen nice beaches and a statue of Jesus and not much else. Nearby Sao Paulo has a high crime rate so maybe not visit there.
I flew to Buenos Aires and took a bus into town. Over an hour ride. The city is easy to walk around though there is quite a lot of it.
Montevideo is a short flight away. Interesting but not a lot there.
The BA bus to the airport from the centre has the same number as another bus which does not go to the airport so make sure you take the right one.
Buses can take a very long time. Flights are not cheap but not too bad if you book early. Use kayak and other sites.
I've found hostelbookers quite good on accommodation. Some good hotels at budget prices.

In Brasil, the city of Rio de Janeiro is a must see. But demand all precautions about security ( don't be afraid, the violence is fairly high, but i'm believe it's in the accepted level of south america big citys)....
São Paulo is the greatest city of the country. Many, many things to do.... by far one of the best infraestructure of the South America (i'm live here)....
Altought, you have considering the cities of Rios das Ostras and Buzios (Rio de Janeiro State)? Those have very nice beaches, the view is so wonderful( all Rio de janeiro state is blessed by wonder paisages and natural resources...)..
In Brasil, the most commom method o travelling to tourists is by airplane. The prices front the buses fares is quite equal, and de time saving is huge...
Montevideo is a nice city, but ultimately the crime rate is rising... a little precautions may be demanded, but nothing to desmiss the merit to travel to this sympathic city of Uruguay. If possible, i recomemnd the citie of Colonia del Sacramento.
Neighborhoods to stay(im my opnion): Rio de Janeiro: Gavea , Ipanema or Leblon. São Paulo: Itaim Bibi or Jardim Paulista. Montevideo: Pocitos.

Kurtal, I´m from Buenos Aires..if you live in Peru, I suppose you speak spanish, so..
Si tu idea es viajar desde Montevideo, el avión, por lo general, va a aterrizar en el aeropuerto de buenos aires, y no en ezeiza, que es probablemente donde el avion de "Cyberia" aterrizó. Por lo que ya vas a estar dentro de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires, ahi te tomas un taxi y listo. (cuidado, porque como en toda ciudad, si se dan cuenta que no sabes donde vas, quizas den unas vueltas de más, cobrandote el viaje mas caro de lo que es)
Buenos Aires es una ciudad muy linda para caminar y la verdad es que es posible caminar de un lado para otro. Si te cansas, siempre podes tomarte algun colectivo o el subte (recominedo que te compres alguna guia T...sino, hay un mapa interactivo del gob de la ciudad, que te dice cuales son las maneras de llegar al destino que elijas)
Muchas cosas para hacer, muchos lugares por conocer, mucha actividad cultural, nocturna y demás. (si necesitas alguna info adicional, mandame un mensaje privado)
Estuve en Fortaleza. El aeropuerto queda un poco alejado de la ciudad. Se trata de una Ciudad grande. Ya te digo que el mejor lugar para quedarte, es en la costanera. Mi ex novia es de alla, y cuando la visitaba, no hacia muchas cosas turisticas, sino mas bien una vida de local. Pero te recomiendo quedes en la costanera.
A Natal no fui, pase por al lado para ir directamente a Pipa. Lindisimo lugar, te recomiendo que vayas. De Natal escuche que es una ciudad muy linda, mas no te puedo decir.

If you plan to travel from Montevideo, the plane usually will land at the airport of Buenos Aires, not ezeiza, which is probably where the plane of "Cyberia" landed. I will generally use flights to transport between all of these cities because of the limited time.
I will consider all of your advices. I know, it will be an unforgettable trip.

Like others have said, Rio is a must see but is dangerous. Sao Paulo is just a huge city but NOTHING to see. Its not as dangerous as it used to be but its not even worth stopping here!! And I live here in Sao Paulo for 11 years now and I know this place, well, sucks!!
There are NO trains here except from Belo Horizonte to Vitoria and there another one in Curitiba to the beaches.
Bus services in brasil, like argentina are VERY GOOD. Leito buses are sleepers but cost about double and are worth it if you go overnight.
