Okay here's the story, I'm considering travelling this summer for 4-5 months or as long as I can comfortably. Problem is I don't know where to go, the world's a wonderful place and it's torture to restrict myself to only 1 or maybe 2 continent(s) due to the issue of expense. I'm really set on making an adventure out of it, doing something that's not in my routine, make new friends and hopefully change my life.
You just answered your own question.
Since budget is an issue then obviously don't go an expensive developed western nation like the US. Go an inexpensive destination like Central/South America, SE Asia, etc.
Have fun.

Terry
One other small point to consider...
You state: "... I'm really set on making an adventure out of it, doing something that's not in my routine, make new friends and hopefully change my life..."
If that's really the case when why would you choose as your first destination a country that speaks the same language, listens to mostly the same music, eats much the same food, wears mostly the same clothes, shares a long and close history with your homeland, etc. etc. etc.
Not that the US isn't a very interesting country, but why not start off by at least trying to get out of your comfort zone a wee bit...
Good luck.
Cheers,
Terry
