You can buy most things you might need in Thailand and at reasonable prices. Take a few changes of clothes, sunglasses, maybe a few books, stuff you need top get ready in the morning, if before November a small telescopic umbrella may be useful. Travel light.
If you Google: travel insurance, it will bring up a number of companies for short or long term insurance.
You will get 30 days visa free on arrival in Bangkok which can be extended by trips out and back, with 30 days by air and 15 days if returning by land.
