your route sounds pretty simular to mine, like you I havent booked anything yet as I know things will change which they have done already
Im going, Thailand (north), Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and back in to Thailand (south) then move on to malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and eventually Aus/NZ
Im thinking about leaving towards the end of August and I have no timescales as i'm leaving my job, I'm 22 and also going alone but hopefully meeting some friends in Aus.
Have you made any plans for when your their?

Flight to Thailand, then flights to Cambodia, Vietnam, train up the coast and flight to Laos. Then flight to Beijing and after, flight to Australia.

Companies like Air Asia can do the internal flights for Asia. Don't book them late.
Take time out to see the sights in Beijing. A lot more than the Great Wall at Badaling. Ignore anyone who asks if you want to go to a tea ceremony as it's a con to separate you from a fair sum of your money.

You are travelling a very well trodden route so lots of tourists you can pair up with along the way if you want to.

My sis is living in Melbourne the last year and a bit so when I get to Oz I'll either meet her first and then do the East Coast or do the Coast and meet her. Either way I'll be spending Christmas with her! But the travelling up the coast will be done by myself unless I meet people along the way who are doing the same!
Met up with a friend who has done similar route to me before and couldn't say enough about it! Bit worried about Thailand though by myself...hearing few worrying things which is making me a little worried!
