Hi I am travelling to Australia in feb next year I plan to work as soon as I can I am planning on taking £5000 which currently converts to just under 9000 aud at present would this be enough to get started and live comfortably while looking for work an hostels then shared accom? I will be visiting my cousin in Perth for first couple of weeks to find my feet and get number bank and stuff sorted then heading to Sydney Melbourne mainly to work and live for hopefully a second year also
I tend to give people an estimate of AUD $75/day an a decent average backpacker budget. That amount of money allows you to stay in small dorm rooms in decent quality hostels, buy supermarket food to cook your own meals, and travel around by public transport. You can live even more frugally, but it's hard, while blowing through 2-3 times as much money every day is easy (if you regularly go out at night, do activities, etc).
But, anyway, assuming that $75/day budget, your almost AUD $9000 should last you nearly four months, which should be plenty of time to get your bearing and find some work.
Thanks so much for your response I appreciate it and I'm definitely in the mind set of waiting till I have work before the partying and extra activities kick in ;-) that way I can ensure bit of money behind me still if need be
Thanks for the breakdown
