Hi my name in Jordan, 20. I am tired of England, I want to get away and explore the world. My dream is to travel and see some amazing places that the world has to offer. I plan to stay and maybe work a while in the places that make me happy and move on when I seek new adventures. I would be very grateful of any advice of people who are living my dream, things such as how much to save to start me off? where would be a good starting place? things I need to consider whilst planning? Just anything that would help me out, so hopefully one day I could give advice to others wanting to start their dream. Thankyou x
Hi Jordan,
Welcome to Travellerspoint.
How much to save will depend on where and for how long you want to travel, so with a lack of plan at the moment I would say save as much as you can. Plus more!
Are you talking about a trip of x number of months or are you hoping to start a lifestyle of constant travel? Do you have some vague country ideas? Ideal budgets can obviously vary greatly depending on the destination. If you plan to work while you're travelling I think your first step is to look at where you can get working holiday visas and that will guide your destination, budget, and time choices. It will at least give you a few avenues to research more thoroughly.
Hope this helps and good luck!
Thankyou, that has helped a lot. I am looking to travel for at least upto 6 months, maybe longer, depending I discover it is everything I imagined it to be. I want to travel Asia, visit Thailand, maybe hop over to Australia near the end of my trip. Something along that side of the globe. As far away from England as possible.
Hi Jordan
As a rule of thumb I'd say don't figure on working in Asia - live cheaply there on savings you take with you. For working your way round think Australia or New Zealand with their working holiday visas.
Generally in poorer places there are lots of locals looking for work, and they tend to look after their own. The exceptions are where you bring a special skill - eg as a native English speaker. You may be able to get work in hostels such as on reception (as the visitors like a native English speaker) or maybe teaching English, some places will be more formal about qualifications and work permits than others. Maybe casual work like in hostels can be swapped for free accommodation rather than payment so you are not working illegally.
