When I was travelling in Sydney I stayed in the BASE Hostel, which was fine for travelling but I can’t imagine staying there whilst working!
When I got back to Sydney to work I lived in a flatshare, but towards the end of my visa the landlord decided to do some renovations so we all had to move out permanently and I was left needing somewhere to live for two months before my visa ended. I couldn’t find a flatshare due to the short nature of time I needed somewhere to stay. I looked at a few hostels but felt I would be paying a lot of money for what I was getting.
I eventually found – a small B & B/hotel about ten minute train journey from the centre of Sydney which did weekly rates. There were about 30 rooms in total, and probably about 6 or 7 of them were people staying there long term who I made friends with.
My room was small, but really nice, it was cleaned each week and I got fresh linen/towels, I got breakfast every morning that was really good, free tea and coffee and every day and they got practically every paper in Australia delivered that I could leaf through free as well!
I paid $250AUD a week – which was roughly the same I would have paid if I stayed in a dorm room in a hostel in the centre of Sydney or in one of the more popular suburbs.
Just thought I would offer it as an alternative.
