Paris/France

G'day, we are planning a holiday in France that will have a visit Paris for several days and do a 7 day bike ride (heaven forbid). Having never been there before I'm interested to hear what are "The must visit"destinations. I'm thinking of putting a huge list together and then whittle it down to just what we can fit into our time there. Along with major attractions we would love to be able to walk, amble along, eat the food, drink the coffee in some of the most quaint areas of Paris so please lets know where these are also. Thanks for your help and looking forward to a magic holiday.

Paris is a nightmare full of traffic and very aggressive cyclists. Best to use your bikes only when or after leaving the city. I have a house in Normandy which has lots of great countryside and nice little villages. It's about 80 minutes from Gare St Lazare to Rouen by train. You could then cycle to the coast and head down south before getting a train back from somewhere to Paris.

Thanks for the reply Cyberia it's early days as yet in our planning so anything is a possibility but we do want to see as much as France has to offer and we are trying to find the best spots both in Paris and out of Paris that are on offer. Nice walks, small villages, coffee shops, bakery's, sunsets, lakes, rivers, mountains are all up for consideration. There are one or two fairly serious photographers in our group of 6 so we are keen to see the best locations.

If you're into it, maybe consider hitting these spots: .

Did a lot of vague (but very enjoyable!) walking myself but wouldn't be able to tell you what neighbourhoods they were

Saint Jean, the old (ie Medieval) part of the city of Lyon, is always a really nice place to visit. Extremely charming and picturesque, with cobbled streets, traditional restaurants and second-hand bookshops. It has a fun medieval shop tucked away in a back alley as well, right next to the Miniatures Museum.
