Sri Lanka Trip Help needed

Hi,

Hi Kimjones - I'm not sure I can answer all of your questions but...

We toured Sri Lanka independently for a couple of weeks in July 2013. We arrived in Colombo late on Saturday night and stayed in Gampaha because it was near the airport but also on a train line up north. We left Gampaha by train at 6:20am (LkR550 each) for Anuradapura and had two half days and a night there. From there it was a bus to Dambullah (LkR 180, 90 minutes) and a tuk-tuk to Sigiraya for two nights. We took a trip from there to Polonaruwa during the day and then an evening safari Minneriya. Then the rock in the morning (LkR3500) before getting a tuk-tuk back to Dambulla for the caves (LkR1500) and then a bus (LkR94) to Kandy for two nights. Then a train from there (LkR1250 in the observation carriage) at 9am to Ella, arriving at 4pm. Two nights in Ella followed by a bus to Tissa (300LrK) for Yala National Park. One night at Tissa and then a couple of buses around the southern coast to Mirissa for three nights before heading off by bus through Galle to Colombo and the airport.

The wildlife was brilliant (crocodiles, elephants, deer, leopard, water monitors, chameleons, loads of different birds, bats, chipmunks, giant squirrels and mongoose) and the ancient history was also fabulous - not much to choose between Anuradapura and Polonaruwa.

And the locals were really friendly too.

Enjoy Sri Lanka!
