South Lake Tahoe

Hey,

If memory serves they have a thriving mini Vegas on the south end of the lake in Stateline Nevada.

Yes, Lake Tahoe is a mini Las Vegas, but in a beautiful mountain setting, with snow on the ground around Christmas-time.

In addition to the casinos and nightlife and restaurants (some on top of the mountains overlooking the lake), you can also drive the short distance to Reno (the second largest city in Nevada) or to Virginia City--which was an old silver mining town that used to be the second largest city in the western US--and still looks like the old Western (think 1860s) town that you see in the movies. It is about an hour's drive east of Lake Tahoe.

If you like to ski (or want to learn) there are 4 major ski resorts at Lake Tahoe;--Squaw Valley (home of the 1960 Winter Olympics), Heavenly (right next to the casinos), Northstar-at-Tahoe (my personal favorite), and Alpine Meadows.

At Squaw Valley, even if you don't ski, you can still take a gondola to the top of the mountain (and back) and take in the views and eat at a restaurant at the top (along with the skiers).

Enjoy

Also, the village of Incline Village on the east side of the lake is home to many billionaires. As a friend of mine said, "It is where the billionaires are all putting up buildings to crowd out the millionaires".

Thanks for the info. The pics look amazing, I can't wait to visit!

Here's a typical billionaire's type of home in Incline Village (price on this one is about $30 million). Be sure to click through all the photos to realize how really unique some of these properties are.
