2010 trips, best exchange rate for the UK Pound?

Not the Euro, what woudl you recommend? I would like to go back to Poland (great exhange rate).

Hm, not this straightforward as you have to compare the relative cost of living as well as the exchange rate, but I reckon you'd get the most bang for your buck in Romania and Bosnia, with Serbia, Hungary and Poland running in a close joint second. I reckon Albania would be mightily cheap.

Thanks, I've been to Constanta in Romania and Warsaw and Krakow (and surrounding areas) in Poland.

I would like to fly to Italy (on the cheap) and cheap by ferry to Albania

Head up to Hungary!

In the early months of 2010 I was thinking of somewhere warmer, I thought Cyprus would be warm enough?

I am looking for budget flights, possibly Morocco may be warm?

In many Eastern European countries (Romania and Albania especially) you'll meet people outside the banks that'll give you a better rate than inside the building.
We met a guy in Romania who took our $100 and messed about with it for a day or two. He brought us back (I think) $110 and made a little for his family. There are many clever folk out there, if you care to trust them.
Bulgaria has offered 1Lev 95Stotinkis to the € for around 6 years now.
The £ was almost 3Leva in 2006. It's now worth barely 2.20
The € is more powerful than the US$ to play with in Europe. To go 1 step further, Montenegro isn't in the EU and isn't even close to joining, yet it's currency is the €.
The € reigns supreme in Europe, both W and E

Well I won't give money to someone like that! I found better rates from small sellers in hole in the wall establishments on main streets in Krakow(compared to the big banks). Rates were 5.35 instead of 5.15.

I bought a lot in Warsaw and the money lasted me through Krakow as well and I still have 30 pounds left! (its THAT cheap there!)

Looked at trends on Yahoo currency. The Egyptian rate was the best in the last 5 years when we went in 2007 not as good in 2009 when we went but it was at its best since 2007

I sleep in hostels, eat out each night and tend to go to the main attractions. According to pretty much every guide and compared to other people I still spend only about 40% compared to others. I buy the same stuff, go out more, drink more, but I find the places that are just as nice but are cheaper or have special offers

(Staying at hostels when its free meal night is suggested as well!) I was lucky in American, I was always in New York when it was free Dominos pizza night and nights when muffins were free
