There are two international sections right beside each other. Question: Did you book the Delta/Qantas flight together? It is connecting or did you purchase the flights separately? If Qantas is codeshare then you could organise your bags through to Auckland, security is not like LAX where you need to collect bags and recheck in if you are on connecting. However if it isnt then you will need to clear customs and immigration then go to Qantas counter to check in where latest checkin is 90mins and if plane is NOT connecting/codeshare then if Delta is late, Qantas cannot be held responsible. If plane is not codeshare/connecting you wont get a SYD-New Zealand ticket in USA, so you need to checkin irrespective. If it is, which i dont think it will be, you could get a ticket in USA.
