Anywhere really, I was thinking Albania (Tirana) or Belgrade say?
Wizzair flights from London (Luton) to Sofia, Timisoara and Zagreb are around £70 return (inc.) if booked more than 6 weeks in advance. From all 3 destinations, it's just a short train ride to Beograd. Not the friendliest border guards in the world. I've done Serbia many times and the border guards just don't like any Brits at all.. Full stop. Make sure your papers are fully in order, or they'll take great pleasure in giving you a couple of hours of total hell, before throwing you out the office.
Ryanair will get you from London (Stansted) to Brindisi and Bari, Southern Italy for around £30 one way (inc.).
Both Bari and Brindisi have ferries across to Albania.
I can't comment on the ferry services from there, as I do my regular trips across from Corfu Town to Saranda.
I can thoroughly recommend Albania. There are lots of people here in Travellerspoint that seem to dislike Albania and it's people for some reason. Maybe they have grounds to slate the place and it's natives, but I've been there many times, both working and playing and it's just wonderful.
Sure, like anywhere on the planet it has it's good and bad of everything, but I've always only found good and endlessly friendly.

Yes I was looking at Bari or Brindisi.
Perhaps the Serbians attitude would change?
We are not playing them in the World Cup (until after the group stage!)
I would like to do the ferry option as despite the ferry cost (how much/links?) I think at least this way I can see the whole of Albania going from West to East to the Lake Ohrid!
I was going to go (by train?) North toward the other places/Serbia.
I was wondering how long the ferry would take as well. In the summer I can fly with German Wings to Tirana.
I didn't find Riga too friendly whereas Vilnius was wonderful! Apart from a crazy religious woman who stalked me and whacked me with a [plastic bottle often!
